Kaiate Falls walk and waterfall in Welcome Bay, Tauranga
Kaiate Falls walk and waterfall, also known as Te Rerekawau Falls, is a pair of impressive waterfalls with one being a three-tiered upper series followed by an attractive plunge of the lower waterfall. A the base you’ll find a beautiful swimming hole where you can enjoy a lovely swim.
You arrive at a parking area where the beginning of the trail begins. From here you make your way down a dirt track that also has some stairs along the way.
As you make your way down, you’ll also find yourself walking through the beautiful forest to reach this stunning attraction. There are also a number of viewing spots where you can cast your eyes on each of the waterfalls before you reach the main waterfall.
At the base, you will find a waterhole that is lovely to swim in during the summertime. There is also an area that is great for picnics with a view of the spectacular waterfall. The swimming hole is not advisable to swim in for a few days after a decent rainfall. Due to maybe having become contaminated.
Tracks are well-formed throughout the reserve. You will require a moderate level of fitness and care as you make your way down the Kaiate Falls walk and back up the tracks. It will be wise to wear appropriate footwear. During time of rainfall and up to a few days after, the tracks can become slippery in places.
The car park up the top, nearby, is an area where you can also have a picnic. Views here have you overlooking Mount Maunganui and the Port of Tauranga.
